The tension between organizations optimized for predictability and the unpredictable world we inhabit has reached a breaking point. Only organizations that adapt to this ever-changing world are going to survive.

- Robin Zander, Founder of Responsive Conference

In 2015, the authors of Responsive Org wrote that “the future is becoming increasingly difficult to predict.”

Today, with global instability, political partisanship, and a more rapid rate of change than ever seen before in human history, those words feel prescient.

The tension between organizations optimized for predictability and the unpredictable world we inhabit has reached a breaking point. Only organizations that adapt to this ever-changing world are going to survive.

We structure organizations the same way we did in decades and centuries past – built for a time when predictability mattered more than speed of execution.

I’ve had anything but a conventional career path. Across more than two dozen different industries – from circus acrobat to self-taught restaurateur – I’ve witnessed the same bureaucratic practices. Good people stuck in outdated systems.

In early 2016, I produced a day-long “unconference” about the future of work. Attendee enthusiasm was overwhelming, and I saw the appetite for an annual conference about work. I started Responsive Conference because I was interested in exploring and learning from the best thinkers and practitioners around the world. The theme of Responsive Conference 2025 is “Design for Change” because the world is changing so rapidly. Only those individuals and organizations who can adapt are going to survive.

Individually, humans can be incredible learners, capable of resilience and adaptation. But together, in well-functioning teams, we can accomplish more. We strive to create spaces for humans to connect authentically and meaningfully.

Our goal with Responsive Conference is not just to talk about human connection, behavior, and work. Rather, we are creating a learning and connection experience where we can actually embody these ideas.

Let’s build the future of work together!
