Teenage girls deserve a space where they can be encouraged to learn about AI - a place where they can explore it at their own pace, connect with like-minded girls, and see how it can make an impact in their daily lives.

- Colbie Freese, Shine! Girls Leadership

Hi! I’m Colbie Freese and I’ve recently become really excited about AI.

One year ago, I started an organization called Shine! Girls Leadership to help middle school girls feel confident as they transition into high school. I’ve since led workshops on developing leadership skills, crafting SMART goals, and building confidence - and it’s been amazing to see the impact on attendees.

After taking an advanced computer science class in school, I began casually experimenting with AI and was fascinated by the possibilities it opened up. When I shared my excitement around AI with my peers, I was surprised at the uncertainty many teenagers, especially girls, felt about using these tools.

My hope is that this program will equip teenage girls with the confidence and knowledge they need to make informed decisions about how to best implement AI in their own lives, and I want them to feel part of a larger supportive community of girls exploring this tech together.

Teenage girls deserve a space where they can be encouraged to learn about AI - a place where they can explore it at their own pace, connect with like-minded girls, and see how it can make an impact in their daily lives. Learning AI as a teenage girl can also give them a competitive edge and increase the number of professional opportunities available to them in the future.

So, alongside our Shine! Leadership Labs, I’m launching something new: AI in Action: A Shine! Girls Leadership Training. Starting this September 7th, I’ll be running a three-part virtual workshop series built purposefully just for teenage girls. We’ll explore what AI is, how to use it responsibly, and how girls can use it to bring their own ideas to life.

I’m so excited for this next chapter and would love your help spreading the word! Below I have drafted an email that you can use to share this program with your network. In that email is the event page where recipients can sign up for the program!

Thank you in advance,

Colbie

My Ask:

I could really use your help in spreading the word about this free three-part virtual program. If you know any teenage girls — daughters, friends, neighbors — or if you can share it within your organization, I’d be so grateful. My goal is to fill as many virtual seats as possible because I truly believe this program will be incredibly helpful and empowering for those girls that attend.

Below is a ready-to-share blurb you can copy, paste, and forward to anyone you know. Thank you for helping us spread the word!

Subject: Free Virtual AI Workshop for Teen Girls – September 7th, 3:00-4:00 p.m. PT

Hi [Name],

On September 7th, Shine! Girls Leadership will be hosting a free three-part virtual workshop designed specifically for teenage girls to:

• Learn more about AI

• Gain confidence using different tools

• Build proficiency through real-life scenarios

This is a great opportunity to gain AI proficiency in a setting that’s welcoming, supportive, and easy to attend because the sessions are designed specifically with teenage girls in mind.

In addition to the workshop, Colbie Freese, the Founder of Shine! Girls Leadership is seeking other teenage leaders to help form their own teen girl cohorts in other areas. These cohorts will attend the virtual workshops together and then meet locally to discuss and practice real-world AI use cases.
